Growing Almonds

Growing California Almonds comes with a unique set of circumstances that include both opportunities and challenges. Research by the Almond Board of California has shown consumers that the almond is a healthful choice to add to their diets, and communicating that message is a significant component of the marketing activities of the Almond Board of California. Add their delicious taste, crunchy texture and versatility to the almond’s attributes and you have a powerful marketing message to customers and consumers worldwide. These messages have helped build demand year after year, even as acreage and yields set new records time and time again.

California Almonds are a wholesome, premium food and ingredient, and ensuring their quality begins in the orchard with growers who use all the modern—and traditional—tools, techniques and knowledge available to them.

Through its production, environmental and food quality and safety committees, the Almond Board of California has supported research that provides growers with the most up-to-date knowledge for growing almonds productively and efficiently while maintaining high standards for food safety and environmental protection.  These activities, along with ongoing marketing efforts, will help sustain the health of the California Almond industry well into the future.

The Growing Almonds section of this Web site is designed to provide California Almond growers with information and resources both within these pages and from other valuable online sources that will help them succeed in growing the healthiest specialty crop in the world.

Held on February 6, the 2014 North San Joaquin Valley Almond Day highlighted a variety of timely topics for almond growers.  Sponsored by the UC Cooperative Extension, subject area experts  presented on several topics  -- many of which have benefitted from Almond Board research funding:  leaffooted plant bug monitoring and treatment, sprayer technology and efficacy, farm advisor updates, groundwater basin dynamics and management, drought irrigation approaches, and salinity management.  You can find those presentations here.
